Breaches in Trust

Have a conflict with someone at work? Here are a couple tools you can use to start getting things back on the right track.

TRANSCRIPT

Did somebody tick you off today? Did somebody leave you out? Did somebody steal your idea or not thank you for something and you're left kind of blah. You don't want to talk to them anymore.

Or you've been avoiding them for the last 24 hours. When we feel betrayed, we usually blame and we feel like victims. Rather than keeping that blame inside or taking out on another person, we want to be able to openly talk about what happened. Especially when it's been a good friend at work or it's been a good friend, how do you get over it?

Number one, give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they have no idea that you feel that way or that they did that thing. They might not have a clue. Generally, I find people don't.

Second thing is, could you have done something to contribute to that problem. Sometimes we say things without even realizing it. Or sometimes we don't say things that we're pretty sure we did say, but we left that part out. Look at that a little bit.

And remember, everybody makes mistakes. Sometimes we have hold other people to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. So notch down a little bit. Give the person a break and communicate.
