Today, I'd like to talk about the why.
And that's often missing from conversations about change.
That could be anything from DMS to a change in process, something you're trying to get people excited about. We forget that they don't know why we're doing it oftentimes. And we don't so people don't have the link between what you're asking them to do and the reason to do it. So why is oftentimes completely neglected.
We need to do that for people so that they can see that I'm I have a a greater reason to do this, especially when the change is hard to do. And as we know, most change is difficult for people because they've done something one way and now they're being asked to do it another way.
We are going through many changes because of DMS that's causing people to think differently and to share information with different people, things like that. So when people can be connected to why they're doing it, then it will be easier for them to take on this new behavior. One other thing about the why is that as a leader, you wanna make sure that the why is inspiring to you so that you are inspired by this why.
Now how do you get inspired?
You wanna be able to think about a future that you're committed to that is inspiring to you. So if you think about the future you're trying to create for your team, the vision that you have for your team, then things like DMS or other things you're trying to do are helping you get there. Without that overall context, then, you know, even you could be going through the motions. If you're going through the motions and if you're going through the motions and you're not excited about it, people around you are gonna pick up on that. If you're doing it like I have to do this because they told me to do it, you're gonna have a tough time selling that to other people.
So create your why and think about it, talk about it, and then present that ahead of getting into the change itself and bring it up on a regular basis.
